I am so not sure why we did not explore this park better the first time around. I guess I did not do my research well the first time. This time around with a 1 year old, the way we look at everything has changed. This park is awesome. Really it is. It has small hikes for all ages and beautiful play area for kids near the camp sites.
We started with the Dragonfly Children’s Nature Trail. This can’t be called a trail as it is just .5 mile. It was perfect for my son to walk. 1 and half year old. He walked the entire trail. It has a bridge over the creek and a jumping activity which was fun.
We went by the visitor center. Gorgeous views from there as well.
Our next hike was Grouse Mountain Overlook. 0.8 mile. It takes you to the the highest point in the park (9,843 feet). Please continue hiking to enjoy a spectacular view of Pikes Peak to the east and the Sangre de Cristo Range to the southwest. This was breath taking. If not for the wind, we would have stayed a long time taking in nature’s beauty.
